The anticipated Plymouth J’Ouvert kicked off the Ole Time Carnival and Heritage Calypso Monarch on Saturday July 23, 2016. Then, the Masquerade Theatre and Cultural Showcase took to the streets of Plymouth showcasing traditional carnival characters. The battle for the title of Heritage Calypso Monarch then occurred, with contestants performing original compositions on the theme, “Bring Back D Ole Time Days – Cut and Contrive.” Winning the title of Heritage Calypso Monarch 2016 was Giselle Fraser- Washington. She walked away with thirty-five thousand dollars ($35,000.00).
